These Martin Committee I (Searchlight) alto saxophones are one of the most overlooked (and underappreciated) vintage American altos ever made. It was repadded before I got it, and the pads were done well. The tech used pads with a rivet center like the original pads. I did a fresh set-up, refit the neck and play-tested it extensively. These never disappoint and this one is no exception. The low notes are full of brassy tone, the second octave is bright without being shrill, the whole sax is free blowing, and she has great intonation.
Also, these had the best table key design before Selmer's rocking system. The ergonomicss are far better than you'd expect from a sax of this era. I have no idea why Martin later changed the table key design but these were far better than the Committee IIIs. Sometimes a whole committee is wrong, I guess.
This one was made in about 1935. Serial number 114xxx
